Mojiti: New Online Video Tagging Service

mojiti.gif From China Web 2.0: "Mojiti is a new online video annotation service founded by Eric Feng, a Microsoft veteran, on August. Unlinke other video sharing site, Mojiti intends to

"Get more out of your online media with the unique Mojiti experience. Transform a passive viewing experience into one that is engaging and exciting - allowing you to be in control of and interact with what you are watching. (from Mojiti website)"

In Mojiti, you can add annotation linked to a specific time in a video clip, what Mojiti calls Spot, or you can add Spot Ticker as well. A Spot Ticker is a scrollable banner that contains user-created information about a specific video. Both Spot and Spot Tickers are displayed at the bottom of the video screen, and Spot Tickers will show text that changes as the video plays. The service enable you to add your comments, opinions or subtitles to the video clips.

Since a video may have multi Spot Tickers created by different users, when watching videos, you can choose which Spot ticker you would like to watch, or turn off Spot. As Youtube, you can also use a snippet of html code to embed the annotated videos to anywhere you like. Here is an example: (Noted: maybe you can not watch it via rss readers)

Mojiti does not host video files by itself, user just add and anotate video files hosted in other video sharing sites. Now Mojiti supports YouTube, MetaCafe, MySpace, Google Video, IFilm, Revver, MojoFlix, Veoh, AOL Uncut Video, and 6 Rooms and Tudou in China.

What’s the business model for Mojiti? From its FAQ, Mojiti plans to embed ads inside the video itself through our Advertisements Spots (or Ad Spots). Mojiti is trying to have its own cake in online video market by finding a niche, but I just wondering whether it is difficult for Youtube to add this feature?

Eric Feng, founder of Mojiti, explains the origin of Mojiti (part I and II)."
