From China 2.0 Review - Online Video Editing: We know that the video sharing market is crowded. As an effort to stand out from the rest of the peers, they more or less provide some online editing and recording features.
Unlike these by-products, services we talk about today are born to be online video editors. They are Sayjoy, Moochi and Biku. Sayjoy relaunched in last month. It’s formerly known as Saylook. Moochi and Biku both launched in last August. Not like Mojiti, they provide some free quota for users to upload their own video clips. Users can choose video clips from public library, but not from other services. Similar foreign services include Jumpcut and a bunch of others.
These services are mostly competing with editing features, since they are tool-oriented. In current stage, they are very similar to each other. You can select video clips from you own library, whether it’s uploaded or online recorded, or public library. You can change the background audio and add some annotation text to the video. Then there’re some special effects for you to choose. Your cooked video is almost done, ready to be shared with others.
SayjoySayjoy/Saylook is a Hangzhou based startup. It has been there for at least one year. My initial testing tells me this is the most user friendly one. It provides several templates such as old film and MTV, which combines special effects for a particular theme. It also guides user through a wizard, so you don’t have to read the manual. After you select all the video clips and photos, it has an option to put them together in random order, so you don’t have to think about it if you are lazy. And the result is not bad.
MoochiMoochi is headquartered in Hongkong. It was founded by serial entrepreneur Lin Yongjun. Moochi also provides powerful template. But it’s not like Sayjoy. Its templates show you how to organize your material into a story. This is not useful for power user, but certainly simplifies newbie’s life.
BikuBiku is a Beijing based startup from the same team behind Hoju, formerly know as Abitcool. It is marketing with the concept of montage, which means remix. Biku’s advanced editing UI is probably the most suitable for professional user. It also supports pulling in photos from Flickr and Yupoo.
