Effective as of March 1, 2006, the Law on Public Security Administration Punishment says text offenders of porn or fraudulent messages may be or fined 500yuan ($62.50) or detained 9 days. Other have already been detained In 2005 for providing cyber porn for up to 12 years (99 Sex Forum).
This new law follows the announcement made by a recent meeting in February by several large private ISPs at the Internet News Service Work Committee under the Internet Society ofChina (ISC), who pledged to vigilantly rid china of "unhealthy content," such as pornography and gambling.
